1. What are the factors that contributed to the success and failure of Steve Jobs as a technopreneur?

There are many factors that lead him with his success.
First, the most important one is his
determination to beat down IBM. I don’t really understand what his problem against IBM is. If IBM was a human, it would have been killed by Steve a long time ago. Steve is a religious and crusader type, then why hates IBM? IBM is just a massive computer company. I guess it is like what he said, “Information is power.” thing. Was he trying to rule or something? Or maybe he just wants to change a lot of things. He must have thought IBM was not using their ability like what he is thinking or whatever it is he is planning.
Another factor I noticed was… his
invisible beard. I mean, he shaved his beard. There was a time, they were having problem with their capital and loaning money from the bank was also a pain. After many attempts, he looked at a mirror and decided to shave his beard. “Bankers don’t need beards”, I guess that was what he said after Woz asked him about it. But hey, if we come and think of that, they really wouldn’t be successful if Steve didn’t shave his beard. Hurray to the shaved beard! Seriously, who’s the banker that would want to let their money be borrowed by a beardy young man with informal attire? So, change in appearance really mattered in his success.
Next is Steve being
adventurous. Without a doubt, he is adventurous! He even used drug, for cryin’ out loud! That adventurous spirit gave him guts to do a lot of things. Just like when they are still making the blue boxes, without that he wouldn’t be brave to do another and deeper adventure. Geeh.. His adventure really did a lot of great things. He may have been fired but he did really able to make history.
Steve Jobs also has something like
charisma. I’m not sure about charisma if it’s the proper word but I will use that word for it. You know, even if Steve is harsh and all of these with his employees, they somehow kind of believe in him. I guess the employees were inspired with his words. Or maybe they share same passion as Steve. It is as if Steve is a rock star in their times. For computer-literate people, though. Being charismatic and inspirational guy is really cool and useful if you’re in a business, any business, as long as you’re the owner. You will have the power to control lots of people, just the computer-literate guys and your employees for this matter.
Having
artistic taste might also be a factor. I can’t really understand much about arts but the thing is, Steve Jobs really got it. You can see it in his actions. Although I really can’t tell what it is but he really got something in him that for me is unexplainable. That something helps him do some creative stuff. And those creative stuffs really are something. I didn’t know Steve Jobs was the one responsible of the creation of PCs. Computers were at start are just for programmers and engineers, now, they are also for people having fun, students, workers and a lot more. Just look how cool they created. HP might have really regretted refusing that idea; they might have been more successful as what there are now. Why didn’t that guy in HP accept that idea? He just said, “Why would ordinary people want a computer?” Oh come on?! That guy lacks imagination; he just missed half of his life! Computers that time aren’t really for ordinary people; even I won’t be able to handle it for sure. From the looks of things, we can really say that the level of creativity of Steve Jobs is really fascinating (Just my own opinion).
Another factor is the implementation of
“Good artists copy, Great artists steal”. They bought great ideas which they can use to make their computers better. Those companies they worked with are really innovative in sense but the problem is on how they will deliver it. Luckily, Steve Jobs pull it up nicely.
The most important factor would be… the
love of what he is doing. He really loved what he was and still is doing. I can even relate much about this like in subjects I love. In subjects I love, I don’t really have much problems with my grade. I just let things go on and most of the time, not even study but in the end, a good grade. Steve wasn’t aiming to be rich at all. He just do what he loves and that’s the most important thing we should focus in with our job.
Now, for his failure in technopreneurship:
Well… Yeah, he got a lot of issues.
Anger management, he has lots of anger and less management. Most of the time, he blasts his anger to his employees. His employees were really pitiful, that is a given.
Next is that he was some sort of breaking the company from the inside; that “Apple II vs Macintosh thing“. Even I was kind of thinking, “Hey? What is he trying to do? They are not his toys to play with.” I guess karma did punish him for that.
Bill Gates was a big factor. Bill stole the very thing the Apple Computers was trying to do, the Macintosh. Without that incident, Steve would not have been kicked off from Apple Computers. Bill is like Steve Jobs’ punishment at that time.
Steve kind of trusted the wrong people. Like Bill Gates, there is no argument with that, and also
John Sculley, the guy from Pepsi Cola. I really like that question from Steve Jobs to him, it was like, "Do you want to spend the rest of your life selling sugared water or do you want to have a chance to change the world?" Steve Jobs brought him to Apple Computers but then he was the one that made Steve fired. It was really ironic.
BUT THE THING IS: Steve Jobs haven’t really failed in his technopreneurial life. He failed in bringing down IBM but that’s fine. Losing the company he co-founded, still fine. That didn’t really means he failed. I have watched some videos of Steve telling stories about before and after Apple Computers, he returned at Apple, though. The “before” part was him talking about dropping out of college but dropped in again and took classes he was interested on like calligraphy. Calligraphy gave him idea to make Macintosh use varieties of fonts. The “after” part was about him being confused for a while but he recovered. Steve losing Apple Computers was the greatest that could ever happen to him, according to himself. Without it, he could never start from the beginning and preventing the mistakes he have done before. He even got two companies while at it, the NeXT and the PIXAR. We all know PIXAR today as the most successful animation studio these days. The NeXT, I don’t really have any ideas what they do but Apple Computers bought it, therefore having Steve back to Apple as the CEO. See, did he really fail?? Apple before that was falling but since Steve’s comeback, it became fruitful again.

2. How do you see yourself as a technopreneur?

Does this question asks something like what would I be if I am a technopreneur?? Well no one could answer me now so I’ll stick with that.
Anyhows, I’m more of a technical person than a manager type. I can’t even imagine what would happen to my company if ever I have one. Maybe I could own or found a company but me managing it would be hard or not recommended, just my own opinion, because I don’t really think I’m capable of doing so.
If ever so, I fortunately have one, most probably I will be hiring one trustworthy person to manage it. Well it’s funny; the owner of the company is being managed by his employee? What kind of idea is that?! But it’s really true; I would most likely do that if ever. Wait.. I’m not just going to make him do what he pleases; he still got to convince me. “I’m still the boss here”. (evil smirk). The general plan is that I will be like a project leader that will be open to any ideas from my employees (or I can still call them teammates). Now why would I be in that position in the company??? It’s just like I said a while ago, I’m more on to the technical stuff than the managing. Besides, I don’t think it would be enjoying doing so, the managing stuff. Like what Steve wants to say, “Do what you love to do.” or something like that. Well I like doing programs or related stuff than counting money. I am also not aiming to be rich. Doing business is not really something I want to do in my life; I guess that is one reason why I’m not that in with doing business. I will do fail sooner or later even if I did become a technopreneur. So I got to have a partner or some sort for these. Oh.. Steve Wozniak in the movie Pirates of the Silicon Valley, he’s not really the manager of the business that time but still he’s one of the owner and a co-founder for the company. I guess I could be someone like Woz. Now for the person I would be hiring as my “manager”: If something like he would be doing betrayal or corruption in my company, he’s dead. Not really dead, dead, just metaphorically. I will not just be fooled. Even without much knowledge about how to manage the business, I will still be on alert so no snake is going to bite me. Maybe I’m not the one managing but I can still have a full view of my company. I can relate it with programming, it’s something like bug searching or debugging or error checking, whatever they call it. Observation is one of my greatest skills, applying what I observed takes time. But at least, it can be useful in looking for anomalies in the management. I’m not really so sure about it, though. When it comes to knowledge in handling a business, I’m way too far behind.
Now, enough with the “how to manage the business” part.
What can I offer in my company???
Since I’m more on about a programmer type, and that seems to be most of what I could have, it only means I’ll offer more about that. Good thing about programming is that we could do almost anything we want to do (depending on the language we will be using, of course).
Primarily, internet technology is what most on demand opportunity for us, the IT folks. Investing in developing web applications or websites can be profitable. So basically, we will be making websites for companies out there. Of course, why would they want to hire us in making their website? Well, so far, I’ve only been through JSP and many bunch of stuff concerning Javascript (not the really advance stuff, though). And this semester, we are tackling more about SQL and PHP. With that knowledge, it will serve as stepping stones for this field.
Another field would be in mobile technologies. Other that internet technology, mobile technology is now widely spread all over the world. There are now even many OS for mobile phones, PDAs and smartphones. Creating applications for this gadget can also be exciting and productive. Although I think not that much in our country, but who cares? What is the internet for? I still don’t have any ideas on how to get clients though. Maybe some companies here might be amazed on what mobile technologies can do and besides, it’s not that widely used in the local companies. I should start thinking on how to amaze them and make them interested with this. Hey?! This could be my business plan all about!! So, anyways, right now, not exactly now, I’m studying the Symbian OS. I actually downloaded the developing kits and source codes for it and read it later. It could be useful for future purposes. It’s just like what Steve Jobs said in the 2007 graduation ceremony at Stanford University, wherever that is, he said; “To connect the dots, don’t look forward, look backwards.” He is trying to say that great ideas can come from your past experiences; this is just from what I understood.
Now, for the last thing, computer hardware: I’m not really this knowledgeable when it comes to hardware. If it is about buy and sell of computer parts, I guess I can. Hardware specs are not that hard to learn about but the hardware processes are another story. Imagining how computer hardware(s) work is somehow confusing for me. Until now, I am still amazed with it and sometimes, mystified. But just like what I said, I don’t think I would be touching the hardware processes part and also the repairing part. But of course, I should hire our own technician for that, it would be stupid if a IT company to don’t have one, I guess.
Lastly is education: I want to help others learn how IT works. So I guess a school or a training center can be useful. It is important to share our knowledge about things. Or maybe this could be just a charity work for my company.

3. Would you take the same career path that Steve Jobs took? Why or why not?

What path? The path where wasting my parents’ money to just mess around at college, of course, not. I would still go to school and earn a degree. Yeah, it may have been that he was still successful with his path but it doesn’t matter much for me. I am not really here to be rich or something. As long as I can provide my family of what they need, I’m contented; I hope they will be contented, too.
I really am not the manager type or someone who owns the business type of person. That could be troublesome with my family in the future. I saw a lot of families, rich ones, the parents are busy with their business, and they tend to forget their children. I don’t want that to happen with my family. For me, a cheerful and a united family is preferable. Not all rich families are like that, though. Although, even poor families also experienced it, I will still go for poor people. It doesn’t look so good for me seeing a family broken because of greed or business. There are more excuses for being poor than being rich. Hehehe. I’m just kidding… but yeah. Being with the people you love is better than being rich. Of course, we should still make sure we can provide things for them.
Since I am more on the technical part and I am happy doing it, I will be focusing with it. Being in the management seems to be more paper works, and I am not fond of paper works, and I do not think it is an enjoying thing to do. Having fun with the work is best thing to consider with your job like what Steve Jobs said. So I don’t think you should become the boss to have fun with it. What now if I’m being controlled at work? As long as my boss will not be possessive or something like acting like he owns me, that is very fine.
I want to be like Steve, not Steve Jobs, just Steve Wozniak. I’m not really sure about it but I think he is in the development team rather than in the management. There was one scene in the “Pirates of the Silicon Valley” where Woz was confused on what to do with the investment part. The investments or shares they were talking are too much even I will be bamboozled when talking about that much money. When talking that much money in real life, I guess my brain goes “math error”. Oh c’mon? We are talking about millions of dollars?! That’s too much for me to handle! Ohh.. Even if it’s just 10 thousands of Philippine Pesos, it will still be disturbing for me. The good thing about Steve Wozniak is that he went back to college. You might be wondering why he did so. I got a theory. He may have wanted to know more about his field. In IT, yes, you could learn almost everything even if you haven’t gone to school. But… to learn deeper, the school or any institution is still preferable. Let’s put Data Structures for an example. I don’t really think a normal guy can understand the concepts of Data Structures just by himself. You would really need help from the experts. It is somehow hard to explain. I guess your learning at school is somehow “controlled”, and also not that boring. Yeah… Learning with just your own wouldn’t be that fun to do. Another is that he shared what he learned to others. Woz left apple to return to college. He might have learned a lot of things and then taught children who are interested with computers. Isn’t that cool? That is something I really want to do, to help future generations, create some stuffs and a million of possibilities, forget about being rich.
There is something I don’t have that Steve Jobs had, beating IBM. Well.. Not really the IBM, just something to compete and defeat. I’m a friendly guy. Destroying others or making enemies is not my type. I’m against the survival of the fittest thing; I want everyone to coexist with one another. It is kind of far out at first but if you have not heard what Steve Jobs said when he returned to Apple, 1997, it goes something like this:
“Remove the idea that “For Apple to survive, Microsoft has to go down or for Microsoft to survive, Apple has to go down” but instead, “For Apple to survive, Apple must continue being Apple and do what Apple do best”.”
- Steve Jobs, 1997 MacWorld
Steve really did a really nice idea that time. That is one of the few things I really agreed on what Steve Jobs said in his life. Not like the “You are just a virgin, you just think you aren’t.” one. That was really bad at any view. It really made me wonder Steve Jobs had changed or so I thought. It only means that to avoid being in a competition with other companies, the company should do unique things with of course, others’ help. That is basically how Apple became strong in the 80’s. They bought ideas and combine it with theirs therefore, making it many times better.
Now it comes to my mind, “Will there be a bigger company that would buy my ideas?” I don’t think so. What ideas could I make?? Although, I think I will still be learning more as the days or months comes.
Let me think if I am Steve Jobs, what career would I take? Steve seems to have some ideas about computers so I guess I should go learn more about developing computer technologies. I noticed in the movie, Steve didn’t do much in the work. He just does the plan or I guess so. Steve wasn’t really in the technical work. If it were all just planning, I think I can handle it. The marketing part is something else and like I redundantly say, I don’t like it.
I would only help founding a company but I won’t be helping with the managing and marketing part.
I guess what I’m trying to say is I won’t be following Steve Jobs’ career path because of those reasons I mentioned.

Your reflections/insights on your personal traits test ...

At first, I wasn’t really thinking about an exam about to be given. Before that, we were just talking strange things as usual. We suddenly got to the topic of what we will be doing in today’s Technopreneurship 1 class. It’s kinda’ time for prelim exams and so we thought we might be experiencing it later. My classmate told me to not worry because our facilitator is not fond of giving exams. And I was thinking what exam we would take, the fact that we don’t have notes or anything to study. We got tons of lectures, though.
After some chattering with my classmates, we went to the class since it’s about time. Our facilitator suddenly told us we will be having an exam. A classmate of mine was startled and try looking for notes and asking questions about our previous lectures but our facilitator told him that he doesn’t need to. And then I was wondering what exam it would be. Since I have no idea, I just prepare a sheet of paper and wait. Also, our facilitator said we’re the ones who will check our own papers. There were many late classmates that time or maybe we just entered the room earlier so we didn’t start immediately. The room was kinda’ full and we still weren’t complete.
When we finally started, I was like, “OK… What is this?” I have never tried to take a personal trait test ever. And another thing was that the choices are only A & B and you can’t answer blanks. As I take the exam, I found some strange options. I read those questions seriously making me take longer time to read each items. Many questions were about money. I was asked if I would do anything for money or about the other better option for me. And of course, I would not do anything for money. I’m not really for the fortune or something. People who would do anything for it are mostly doing bad things if needed and sometimes their only option. There was also an item there about friends and stuff over other materials and things about career if I am not mistaken. I have chosen friends, of course. Being materialistic is not my cup of tea and career… I still haven’t even thought of what kind of IT professional am I going to be after I graduated (if God allows me to). Becoming a teacher seems to be enjoying but I don’t know if I am going to be good at it. Programming seems to be fine too but I don’t want to work outside Davao City. Then, being a businessman is also not my type as what I have said over and over again. Why do many people want to be rich? It could be useful for our city’s economy, though. But I don’t think I can be a good businessman; an analyst, maybe. I am just a person who thinks of weird things most of the time, things like what if. What if I use a javelin for mugging someone? And the time when we had a meeting in our Fieldtrip and Seminar class where the problem was the early schedule of Y4IT (Youth for IT) and I suggested “why don’t we just move Y4IT?” Those are just a couple of strange things I imagine in my daily life. They do sound like a joke most of the time. There were also items I don’t want to answer, like a dilemma; but no choice, got to pick one. I forgot those two choices but the second choice was about money. Anyways, those are just the things that I have remembered about the items of the exams.
We checked our paper after that. The choices’ points were from 0 to 2. Fortunately, those choices about money, mostly, which I did not choose were 0 points or lesser points than the other option. Phew! My final score was 38 and the highest score I have seen was 46 or 47, I guess. Those who got 37 to 46 have good personal traits with business. Hey? How could that be? But at least, mine was almost at the bottom. Hehe. Our teacher said we all passed since we got high scores. Later, it made me think, what is the average score then?? I was not able to ask that question, though.
So I was wondering, am I really good for business or something or my score in that test is just right. Then, why won’t I try to take another test like that one? I would be able to test if that personal traits test is accurate and if what traits do I really have. I found this test in this site:
http://www.outofservice.com/bigfive/
Funny site name isn’t it? Hehehe. Anyways, the questions are answered with the numbers 1 to 5; where 1 means strongly disagree and 5 means strongly agree. So the questions are:
If I am talkative: Yeah. I am talkative but not really the machine gun type so I guess 4 would be accurate.
If I tend to find other’s fault: Nope. I don’t really look much of people’s dark side or blame them on to something. It still happens, though… so I gave an answer of 2.
If I do thorough job: That is somehow agreeable. I tend to do things where I remove if not all, mostly, the bad things or error of what I do. Just like in programming, I tend to find and fix all the possible bugs in my program. I find it challenging to do so since my enemy is my own mistakes. Ain’t that cool? So I answered it with a high 5.
If I am depressed: Somehow… I really got some problems like the P5,000.00 for our Fieldtrip and Seminars payment for airfare, still got no money… oh c’mon. But I’m not really this kind of person most of the time. I have given it 3.
If I normally come up with new original ideas: Yup! Like what I have said above, I do think strange things. I don’t know if that can help my business skills but I do think of weird things. We also had an assignment about thinking ideas for a food chain business; I didn’t do good with that because I thought of realistic things while others did some out of my reach ideas. I guess a 4 would be fine.
If I am reserved: I don’t know what does the word “reserved” means. If it means, being bound or restrained into to something of some sort, I guess so. I am the one who prevents my self from doing things. Another 4 for this one.
If I am helpful and unselfish to others: YEAH! I’m even better to someone else than to my own sometimes. It has been years now since I decided to don’t care much for my self and to care much for the others. It’s something cool for me, really. A 5 for this one.
If I am careless in some ways: I guess so. I normally go and attack something without thinking of what to do next like in chess. I also played Damath and somehow, I do fair enough unlike in chess. It is strange, really. I’ll give a 4 for this.
If I am relaxed and handle stress well: Of course. One of my common expressions is “kalma lang”. People sometimes see me as a calm and carefree man. And I’m not really focused in to doing homeworks so I don’t really get stress that much. I just go to sleep. I guess a 5 would be fine.
If I am curious with different things: Yup! I am really a curious type of person; like when it rains even though there is sun light. I figured out my self that it happens because the sun is not somewhere directly above, maybe at the east or west, while the rain clouds are at the top. I also had many of my toys destroyed when I was little. Another 5.
If I am full of energy: Yeah! I maybe sleep a lot but when I am outside the bed, I am kinda’ on the move most of the time and doesn’t sit that much. But facially, I don’t think I look energetic. A score of 4 seems to be enough.
I kinda’ noticed that there are questions in this test. I am still at 11 out of 45. I guess I should just pick the interesting questions.
If I am a deep thinker: I am. Normally, I get frustrated in to something and I think of many details of that thing. So yeah, another 4.
If I generate lots of enthusiasm: I guess so since I got a really curious mind. I have given a 5 for this one.
If I have a forgiving nature: Of course! I am not a perfect person. I also do mistakes. What kind of person am I if I can’t forgive someone? 5 for this one.
If I have an active imagination: Just like my weird ideas, of course. Sometimes, my imaginations are so real. Hey, don’t think I’m on drugs or have mental disorder, I have taken an autism quotient test and it shows I’m weird but still fine. Another high 5 for this.
If I tend to be lazy: I am lazy. No arguments with that. Another 5.
If I am inventive: I got an active imaginations but not a liar. 4 for this one.
If I am assertive: Well, yeah. If I see a mistake and it was really meant, I don’t just keep quiet, I talk about it but not in a bad manner. For this, I gave 4 points.
If I persevere a task until it’s finished: It depends. If I like what I am doing, why not? Otherwise, no. A 4 would be fine.
If I value artistic and aesthetic experience: Even though I got a weird mind, I don’t find my self to be artistic. I simply can’t understand art that much. So I gave 3.
If I remain calm in tense situations: Like what I have said, I am a calm person but my brain’s sometimes stuck up when there are too many things coming in to it in some situations like when I’m surrounded in a basketball game. I answered it with 4.
If I am rude to others sometimes: For a weirdo like me, that’s normal. I’m just being honest. I give a 3 for this.
If I like to reflect and play with ideas: Yeah. It’s fun to play with ideas. Another 4.
If I have few artistic interests: Surely, it is few. 5 for this one.
If I like to cooperate with others: Most of the time, as long as nothing is wrong with what we will be doing. If not, I really wouldn’t do it. A 4 for this one.
If I am politically liberal: NO! 1 point.
After that, I filled up some things below. There was a picture that I should give a 1 word comment. It’s a prawn or shrimp meal. It looks delicious so I answered “yummy” and another bunch of questions. I submitted it then.
The results are something like this:
Openness to new experience/intellect: 30%; meaning: I am somehow tends to be conventional (Geeh? I guess I do really lack individuality?), down to earth (I agree with this), narrow interests (Yup!), uncreative (What? How could this be?).
Conscientiousness: 35%; disorganized (Not denying with this one); undependable (I guess I’m not that undependable); negligent (I’m carefree or maybe careless?)
Extraversion: 70%; sociable, fun loving, friendly and talkative (Of course!)
Agreeableness: 74%; good natured, sympathetic, forgiving and courteous (Yay!)
Neuroticism: 43%; it said I’m neither nervous nor calm; although, the lower score the calmer. I am mostly calm..

So now I am going to compare the results of my personal traits tests…

The exam seems to have 50 items, more or less; then I got 38, 76% of the total. While in the other test, I haven’t reached that percentage in any of the factors. Both my scores seem to be higher than the average, though; but just slightly. I guess the personal trait test I got at school is somehow accurate, which is a low score for the ones who got a high score. I guess that test result was satisfying.

My purpose in life...

My purpose in life is to make sure the next generations will be able to make their own good purposes (and of course, make it happen if they can).

Steve Jobs' Commencement Address

I didn’t really expect that this commencement address at Stanford (2005) will become one of our assignments one day. On our first assignment, I have watched this on Youtube so I can get idea on what to put on that thing. I have found it entertaining for many reasons.
So anyways, I have learned a lot of things in there.
First is, “you can be successful if you just want to and do it with all you got”, of course. Steve Jobs have not really finished his college venture but he is a million times richer than my mother who graduated Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. I don’t know, I guess my mother is not a business-minded person like yours truly, me. Back with Steve Jobs’, he dropped college because he was not having fun with it or something like that. He just took the courses that are interesting for him. “Everything’s going to be OK” or something like that, he said. His parents’ (foster parent(s)) life savings was spent for it. I thought he did not know who his real parent(s) are but he mentioned her mother who also did not graduate at college and have not been married (something like that). Her mother decided to put him to adoption to a college graduate couple but found out later that they weren’t; he was still adopted, though. Geeh… What a lucky couple? So yeah, Steve didn’t have financially-unchallenged (in other words, rich) parents and a good college background but see, he is still successful. But for me, I don’t really think spending your parents’ life savings for your tuition fees just to end up dropping it is kinda’ not cool. Why didn’t he just decide not to go to college at the first place or took the profession that he got interest on, like a business course? I think his foster parents’ was upset with that that time. He still pulled it off successfully, though.
Next is “connecting the dots”. For you to be able to connect the dots, do not look forward instead at your back. He realized that when he used the things he learned from the calligraphy class he took many years ago for the different fonts for that. Well… I did not think Steve was the one who got that idea. About the “connecting the dots”, yeah, I think that is right, of course. You can not just say “I will be building a garage in my house because I will be having a car later” even if you do not have a car or the money to buy it. Buying the car first then making a garage is much smarter decision.
“Trust on to something.” Trust your self, destiny and anything you want to trust. Believe that a good thing can happen even if it will lead you to a weird part; just believe it will live you to something OK. It relates to the previous lesson, the reason why he go to anything he want.
Another lesson is to “do what you love” or “love what you do.” Do not push your self in doing something you do not want. It will just frustrate you and make you thinking “why am I doing this?” I really hate subjects which are boring or have a boring teacher. It just results to low grades. I don’t even think you can be good at something you hate. If you love what you are doing, you can extend your limits just to do it because you really want to. It is like a motivation for you to do it. Even with my undergrad course, I have survived until now because I love the course. I have even mentioned once to my classmate(s) not to hate programming. They say they hate it a lot and unfortunate things happened. In our lab exercises, they worry so much about what will be given and when it was given, they immediately complain it is hard. In my perspective, I just think about what to do right away. So in addition about love what you do or do what you love is not to be scared with it.
“Never surrender even if you fail once.” Steve was fired from his own company. (How ironic?) Of course, he did get upset for a while but he still continued and even got more successful. In situations like this, I always remember the phrase “move forward.” I can move on but I don’t know if I can still do well after an upsetting event. But at least I tried.
“Live your day like it would be your last.” It’s like you should give everything you got everyday. There were those times, years ago; I always think what if I die today. It was disturbing but I surpassed it. I continue living like what I should be and be better. I guess that way you will become better than your yesterday. You should not worry so much about your death though. Don’t be paranoid, that will hinder your work. I am not saying that you should do all things at once, that won’t do any better either. You should still think about tomorrow and not focus so much on today. We can’t expect that we will be able to do what we want but at least you were able to plan for it. But don’t do so many plans; it could give you a hectic schedule. Have fun everyday. Don’t waste time as much as possible in normal situations.
“Don’t stop on to something.” Even if you are already good at it, you should still continue developing it. I believe humans have their limits but you can extend it if you really wanted to. Like the words, “from zero to hero”. I am just a simple person with complicated way of thinking but can only give simple answers. My “complicating” part makes me strive better and better even with if I am just “simple” person.
Steve Jobs really is a person of pursuing dreams. No doubt about it. But of course, let’s live on like how we wanted to and not be like another person.

Given the chance to have your own techno business, discuss it's nature and target clients.

I don’t really know what to do for a business. Making business doesn’t seem to fit me. What business should be good for me? I’m the lazy type of person that doesn’t like to study that much. My way of studying is called “on the spot study” where I try everything for my lab exercises on the spot. They say I study so much for computer programming but that is not true. My secret is just simple. Imagining what can happen and test it is the main technique. I think I am just lucky to have imagined the right thing for it. My imagination reflexes seem to be quick for some reasons. I am just used with imagining things and sometimes the truth and the imaginations mixed up. It is confusing.
Now… What can these imaginations do for business idea generating? I don’t know.
I like making programs with my own. For that reason, I got good with it. I think so. When I stopped schooling after high school and even during high school and I guess until now, I draw characters in the PC and think for story for him/her. Those times, I made a lot of stories. I have forgotten most of it, though. Writing those stories should have been useful. Dumb me. Other than making stories from my sketches, I can also make stories from scratch or random ideas. The stories I made that we usually used in school activities or what we call, “role playing”, are serious in story but funny in the lines spoken. Good old times… I was even wondering how to submit stories to editors or whatever they are called and posting the stories in the net also came to my head. I just feel like doing it, I don’t mind if I don’t make money for it. When I was interviewed for college, specifically for Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, there was a question “Why do I want to take this course?” I answered to make stories in the computer in the form of visual novel, computer games and other form of multi media. It is like both things I like to do, combined. Having this course doesn’t seem to be necessary in making those things, though. But who cares? I still want to take the course. Who knows what can I learn with it? It might be useful someday.
I am a man who likes things to get complicating but for some reasons can only give simple answers when asked. Because of that, I don’t really like boring stuff like subjects where we just do reading and writing stuffs that doesn’t really interest me. If this thing I am writing now didn’t have to do technology, I would have hated this. Well… the only irritating part for this thing is that it’s a very long assignment. I really hate very long assignments but I guess this kind of assignment help us know more about our selves and we don’t really have much for a choice. Let’s just get along with it and have fun.
So, how am I doing so far? I have recently made a project proposal for my final project in the subject database 2. That’s the one below.

Alieminatorinator is a passive web-based game using database technology. Its story is all about humans trying to fight against alien invaders. Humans who fought against aliens are called the “alieminators”.
Humans that are willing to become an alieminator are always welcome to join (register account). Alieminator who want's to go to action should report their status first to the center command (login). When they want to rest, they can just tell their commander (logout). And if they want to resign, they are allowed given that if they go back, they would go back start to zero (delete account). Alieminators use their anti-alien traps called as “alieminatorinator” (inspired by a well-knowned mad scientist and military personnel Major Obtuze Dumbrandull). Every alieminators are allowed to assemble or buy their own alieminatorinator setup. The setup normally consists of the alieminatorinator itself, a field generator and a bait. Alieminators found out that aliens seem to be hypnotized when they feel the presence of chocolates and will want to eat it for reason's they don't know. The setup can be initiated depending on their setup's rechargeability. Alieminators who are successful in “alieminating” the aliens are rewarded with “alieminum”, a rare mineral that can be found in aliens which can be sold in reasonable price. As alieminators alieminates their enemies, they grow stronger.
Alieminators, good luck in the battlefield!

As you can see or read, it is really rare and might be weird for a project proposal to be like that. I just thought that a descriptive type of project proposal would be really boring. Normally, you just put what are the features of your project and its flow. That’s not really fun. So, I have decided to put a story in it and I really had fun. People who were able to read it also had fun, even our professor. Well, yeah. It is totally different from other projects which are just something like inventory, directory and system somewhat like those. Mine could be difficult but that is the exciting part for me as a developer. By the way, I have just realized that my form of doing the project proposal seems to be a cool way of advertising it. Didn’t know I had that in me. But I guess that kind of advertising is just effective with that kind of project or business.
I think the implication of this matter is that I can make business with that kind of game, “Alieminatorinator”. Don’t be bothered with the name. The name was inspired by Dr. Heinz Doofensmirtz. It was just last year that I have started playing web-based games or so we call them, browser games. I had enjoyed playing them. From that time on, I was thinking on doing some of those. My mind wasn’t set for business, though. It’s just for fun. Nothing suits you more than what you have made for your self (normally). It can still be made into business, right? Good thing about gaming is that it is free in form. What I am trying to say that it is freestyle. Virtually, you can make absolutely anything in it. Since it is freestyle, it makes it unique than the other, especially the story.
I know there are a lot of browser games out there. What can I do to match with them? I don’t know, I’m just a beginner. But I don’t really mind that much. I still got much to learn; meaning, I can still improve a lot. One of the good things about the game I have thought of is that it is a browser game, it can be updated easily. Another is, it is not really expensive to make, and it can even be free. Hosting it is another thing; of course, it is not for free if I want to make a business out of it.
Security risks are undeniable, it does happen anytime. I am thinking on how to defend my network, anyways. There’s this something I have noticed when I am in a login form of a site. The address bar of the browser would suddenly go light yellow. At first, I had no idea what’s happening. I just made a theory that it might be for security purposes because it normally happens every time I try to login. I guess I should learn that, too.
What about my abilities in making it? As what I have said, I like doing these kinds of things so I guess I’ll be doing good with it. I was even able to make a story for it, right? How hard could developing it be? I already have knowledge with MySQL database and PHP, “basic knowledge”. But like I said, being a beginner only means you got a lot to improve. I hope so.
I have suddenly got a random funny idea. It is for army’s special operations, a gadget that can project video of a running army dude. The projected video can fool the enemy causing them to shoot at it wasting their bullets. Anyhow, I think something like that was already made because it is sort of broad idea. So, let’s go back with the real thing.
What else? Currently, I was planning to make 3D-based images for the alien’s illustrations and also for the alieminatorinator setup. It is not much of a problem because I wouldn’t be doing very advanced 3D techniques. Like my programming and database skills, it is also basic. But it can help.
How will I earn with it? There is this browser game called Mousehunt that inspired me in my Alieminatorinator. The developers were just making fun in making it. Facebook paid them $250,00 because Mousehunt is doing good. Mousehunt is also the application which has the best community or I think player to player and player to developer interactions in the discussion board. I even made a 3D model of their droids! But enough with Mousehunt. How do browser games earn money? Whatever they do for it will be the same way I will do it. I don’t think it would be easy but why not try?
For my clients, well… everyone can play it, especially those guys who hang in the net that much. I won’t be forcing them to pay. Donation would be fine. The scope would be the planet Earth. If astronauts want to play even in space, they can too. I might also need people from different parts of the world for translation purposes. Now that I mentioned it, I should make the code easier to edit in terms of language. I remembered that the server should also be strong enough to handle many players but I think it would be the host’s problem… Although, I think it’s just too ambitious if I put it that way. Integrating it to Facebook can also be good if I got the money for it. I do think I should still think for additional unique and useful features for this, though…
I didn’t consider being a not-so-experienced person since it’s not part of the criteria for this assignment. Experience is a very important thing, though. For the budget, also haven’t got that in mind… well… I don’t have the money to begin with anyway. It is just my project in Database 2 as originally planned. Who knows where can it lead?
Right… I remembered that I have also thought of a business before. Other countries are using it, though. I have noticed that companies in the Philippines are not using mobile technologies that much. What I mean by mobile technologies isn’t just the smart phones or the PDAs. I’m talking about mobile applications. I know people wouldn’t think it would be so efficient but let’s see.
Like the skills to be used I have mentioned with my Alieminatorinator project, my mobile application development skill is also basic. But at least I have knowledge with it.
What can I probably offer to our country’s mobile application independency?? It is noticeable that our countrymen are just in to mobile games. I won’t be fighting against it, I’m no match with that for sure. So, I’m going to build custom mobile applications for business companies. A monitor for inventory in a mobile phone or something can be useful. It can be not so updated, though. It would depend on the company’s mobile network capability. That application should be able to connect with wifi if possible... Another possible application can be a mobile price guide. It has the ability to view the items your company is selling or its services and display its price. Interactive searching capability is also a good feature… It is better than just a text file in your phone, right?
Talking about mobile, I think I should also make a mobile site for Alieminatorinator. Or some sort of an external application that can still be connected with the Alieminatorinator’s server.
There are a lot of thing’s we can do with mobile technologies. They’ve already made a mobile phone with a projector. I won’t be shocked if Wii will have a mobile phone as a controller. Yeah… Why didn’t they make their own mobile phone? Mobile phones’ camera now also got motion sensors. What about a mobile phone with a dagger? That could be dangerous, though. A phone with a lot of utility skills like nail-cutter? I know that sounds weird. I was also wondering why didn’t they put a USB flash drive reader or hub in mobile phones. That could have been useful… Can a mobile phone be turned into a walkie-talkie device???
I’m wondering if there are helmets for motorcycles that can be plugged in to a MP3 player; or the helmet as the MP3 player itself.
I have noticed that I’m not thinking about business anymore, I’m already inventing things.
Now back to the real world. As you can see, my previous business ideas are both programmer-dependent. What is the right term for that? Anyways, since I love programming, I would prefer to make business that involves me doing it.
I haven’t mentioned about the story I made before college so I’ll tell a little about it since I can only tell a little of it (like I said, I have forgotten a lot of things about it). I entitled it G.E.T. or God Elemental Tales. It’s a fantasy kind of story thousand years after apocalypse. God gave the humans another chance to continue their life here on Earth. There were people that the God gave elemental powers to. One day, there was battle against them. A battle so intense and too much power involved that it exploded and their power scattered around the world. Humans were able to control elemental powers. I forgot to tell, the elements were water, ice, fire, air, earth, nature, electricity, space, time, darkness and light. 11 elements, right?? That’s just the beginning.
One of my goals in college is to continue and improve that story by what I will learn here. So far, I guess the things I could use for it are the programming skills and my new 3D imaging skills. I can make a game for that story. Not like the Alieminatorinator project, it won’t be a browser game. It will be a 3D CGI style of game that is for PCs. It is still far from completion. I don’t have much of a game mechanics and features for it…
What other things can I program? Or maybe invent. The ideas I thought of were already taken from a different perspective. My business seems to be for inventing weird things… I should think of a real business idea...
I just remembered Alienware computers. They let the customer choose the parts for their computers and assemble it. Can there be something like that for mobile phones? Phone architecture is the main problem for this. Someday, it could happen.
About the mobile inventory system I mentioned earlier, I think I kind of forgot one of the main functions of the mobile phone, texting. Why can’t the inventory system request and receive for inventory status an item via text message? Well, that’s just one mean of automated information delivery. It can just be an alternative if there is no wifi, GPRS or 3G connection anywhere near.
I have seen one anime where mobile phones are often times used. That was Eden of the East. Eden of the East was actually a system with a database full of faces and description of a person. They just point their mobile phone camera at someone and description about that person will be displayed. I know that is cool. If it is legal, that can be a good business for mobile phones.
Why can’t I think of a business idea that can connect people in a new and more efficient way? Even if I say taxi companies make their online services where customers call for taxi online, it still sounds like junk. Can I phone battery or any kind of battery charger having a timer or alarm or some sort be a business idea? Hey? That can be useful for flat iron, I have once left our flat iron plugged in. Good thing I set the heat level thing to the lowest. What about a battery charger in a shoe that charges up while walking?
I’m running out of ideas really. So far, the ideas I have mentioned that seem to be good are the Alieminator and the Mobile Inventory System. How about a service type of business idea? I am good with interpersonal interactions but I am not really exposed to many people. Lacking amazing life experiences makes it harder for me to think of those kinds of things, services.
I was looking at the flash drive or disk and thought if there is a USB protection that is built-in in the flash disk. U3 seems to have something like that. I am not really sure. I will try making one, I guess.
I really want to focus my business within mobile phones. Symbian OS and Android OS are open source OS for various mobile phones. I don’t know if customizing these OS and selling them would be fine. My Symbian OS phone got a bug. I am not sure if it is the software version or other reasons. Updating it is cool, right? Customized Symbian or Android OS can be good. Clients would just give you specs for it. The prospect customers would be those rich mobile phone enthusiasts. The business name can be MOS Deformer. What???
Now, many computer freaks and maybe me, someday, can get blind. What about making a “Blind Site”, websites for the blind? The beneficiaries are of course, blind folks. On how will I do that, I still don’t know. My eyes are still working for now.
I thought a total of 4 business ideas. I didn’t count other ideas I didn’t like. I hope those things can be good.

My reflection/learning's on Technopreneurship 1

I have learned in Technopreneurship 1 the meaning of the term “Technopreneurship” is, of course. Well, it is just the combination of technology and entrepreneurship. Only means, business with technology as its base. But it’s not just that. At the first days of class, we tackled what this subject or course aiming for. Generally, so we, the students will or might become interested in doing a business out of what we’ve learned at school.

In long term goals, the Technopreneurship course aims to improve the information and communications technology industries of our city, Davao city. For a longer term goal, that would be for the improvement of the information and communications technology industries of our country as a whole.

So the first activity, I think, we did in Technopreneurship 1 was thinking ideas for a fast food chain for it to be technological and somewhat like. I think, it was our first assignment, as well. Well, my ideas were realistic but lame. My classmates thought of really high tech stuff, so ambitious and so… I don’t know, costly? Good thing I didn’t share my ideas. Phew!

Speaking of assignments, we did tons of it. The first online assignment we did had to have 3000 words in it. Gosh. And I didn’t really like the question and I’m not good at it. So I just have to force my self to do it anyways. It was all about the movie “Pirates of the Silicon Valley”. I’ll be discussing that later.

Another thing we tackled was the core of the Technopreneurship course. We call it the “SEED” thingy.  I forgot the right term; I am not sure but I guess that was “framework” or “course” instead of “thingy”. Anyways, SEED is the acronym for:

S – Self-mastery

E – Environment mastery

E – Enterprise… I’m not sure if it still has “mastery” in it. We haven’t tackled much about it, anyways.

D – Development or Development of a business plan, guess so.

Now… what is with this SEED thingy for? Like what I said, it’s the core of Technopreneurship (Oh c’mon? I’m being redundant.). So, yeah, the core or maybe it should be “cores”, it composed of four things...  confusing. Well… Beginning with self-mastery; why self-mastery? Generally, we should know our self so we know what business we should be doing if we are interested in doing so. So, “interest”. We can’t really be so in to something if we are not interested about it. Right, I can’t understand people who work just for money or what they were told to. What and where is the fun with that? Like me, I really doubt I would be engaging with business since I’m not really interested with it. I also don’t think it would be fun for me.

Anyways, we got a film-viewing of “Pirates of the Silicon Valley”. At first glance, I thought the title means some sort of action and battles but it’s not like that. I just recently realized “silicon valley” means something like the information and communications technology industries. What? How should I know immediately? “Silicon Valley” sounds like some sort of computer store for me. So… the film was all about Apple Computers’ and Microsoft’s birth or something like that. But it focused more with Apple Computers’ founder, Steve Jobs. There was a scene Steve using drugs. With response to the movie, I learned in Technopreneurship 1 that you should be using drugs to become successful! Just kidding. But he really did use drugs, though. Well… the goal of watching that film was to give us idea what a technopreneur is like, I think so. The movie might also meant to inspire us to become technopreneurs. The film was partly comedy and partly dramatic for me. The two main characters are weird. Bill Gates rammed his friend’s car using a bulldozer… what are with these characters? Bill also taught us that exercising is not healthy! Well… this article is not about those things, though. Anyways, the main message of that movie is to steal ideas to become successful. Not really.

Steve follows Picasso’s principle of “Good artists copy, Great artists steal.” (And greatest artists are in jail.) I don’t really care much about that, though. I am a self-dependent guy and I don’t ask help that much unless really necessary. I hate disturbing others, you know. Talking about that principle, it back fired to Steve when Bill stole the idea of Macintosh. So that’s why this film is called “Pirates of the Silicon Valley”, the characters were like pirates. Other than the piracy part, the film also shows the contribution of Apple Computers and Microsoft in blooming the information and communications technology industries. I guess that was all the important and some are not, part of the film.

So… where was I? I remembered the personal traits test. It was for knowing more about our selves and also how we deal in different situations which are often about interacting to others. And I got a low score! Well… Compared to them, it was low and probably one of the lowest. YES! Although I didn’t reach the top, I almost reach the bottom! If you’re wondering why I’m happy with that, my only explanation is that I’m just being honest about it. If you have a high score in that test, it is either you really deserve that score because you really are something like that OR you were just insisting you were like that. And if you are wondering which am I in those two, well, you are wondering so much. I mean, I am neither both of them; like I said, I got a low score! Anyways, our facilitator said those scores were actually high. What the? And my score was almost at the bottom of the range of the high scores of that test. Oh, by “range of high scores”, I mean, we got good personality traits for making a business. It only shows, “how could?” (How did I get there?) Bottom of the high scores… hey? This is familiar. It’s like my score in the interview when I enrolled at IC!

In continuation of our personality test, this also happened to be our preliminary examinations (Yeah! It was really weird!), we had another online assignment; just the reflection that exam. Let it be. And then we had another assignment about IQ, EQ and AQ test. My IQ test result is that I got 133 but it’s not really something like that, it should have been around 140, I mean, just 120 to 130. Pfft! Well, really. But IQ is not really that useful when it comes to business! And it only proves, I don’t belong to the business world! Woo hoo! I’m joking again… Anyways, I think my EQ, which is really essential for business, is in the average to high range. So I got an average score. Another point for not becoming a businessman! EQ is really important because it is on how you deal others and their emotions or reactions, or so I think it is. Then lastly, the AQ test. I am not really familiar with this one before. I don’t even know what “adversity” is. I just realized, it sounds like advertise but of course it’s not like that. Geeh… Anyways, it tests you us what we do in certain situations; situations which are challenging or when you are down. And my score was almost at the average score. I didn’t really care much about it, though. Well, my implication with the tests is that I might only be in the average range of being a businessman.

We also had an activity about our roles in our home, community, country and the world. I wasn’t able to answer much about it. Yeah. I don’t really what’s this in me why I couldn’t explain much about my self. Actually, I can’t really remember much about my self in my childhood. I remember other people in my childhood and even my toys but if you asked me what was I like, I don’t know. The things I remembered is that I got a lot of fears (heights, stray dogs, monsters, etc.); lazy; curious (I tend to dissect my robot toys.); destroying others’ toys but I didn’t really mean to; crybaby; I don’t know… my head is kinda’ cloudy about it and it’s really different from now that because I can easily remember things which are really not that important.

Anyways, I am just recalling my self. So what are my roles in our home? I’m the one who cooks, if I’m not busy.  I also am the most cheerful sibling compared to the other three who argue a lot. But I’m not saying I am that good as a brother. I am kinda’ harsh some times, unlike them, I will really do something when I say so. My sister is even scared to me. But at least, amongst us four, I’m the only one who can easily talk the other three because they really argued with each other a lot of times before; good thing it’s not that much now. Yeah. I’m totally different to the other family members of mine. “I won’t grow up to become someone like any of you.” That’s one of my principles at home. I guess I am the one who really hates them the most. Now, my role in community: I don’t really go out that much especially now. Even until now, I don’t know much about my neighbors, just a few of them, really few compared to the area of our village. The only time I got a lot of interactions with my neighbors is when I was still at preschool nearby. I can’t even remember most of them, anyways. Most of my childhood life, I thought we were so poor and I thought rich families always have mansions. Well, that is what they taught me. I just realized what a poor family really is when I was in grade 5 when I started to travel with my classmates around. Geeh… I really got poor social life. What I was saying is that I don’t really know what my role is in our community. Proceeding to my role in our country: “I will defeat all my opponents in the ring!” Pfft!! What nonsense. I am really a peculiar guy. I am not doing anything to please my country or making it more proud of them selves. While someone is at the boxing ring claiming “this is for our country”, someone else is dying because of hunger. What now if we got the greatest someone in a certain field? It only gives them the false belief that they would also progress just by supporting them. “Think positive but the truth hurts” So, what will I be doing for my country? Who knows? But I won’t be entering a competition and win it just to be someone our country to boast. “Pride won’t prevent someone getting hungry.” And I will stick that in my mind. Now, for my role in this world: Well… I’m still thinking what to do but I will find my way because I’m aiming to unite a world divided by nations and religions. I also aim making humans be more humans and not like machines.

Another activity we did is to recall what we like, what we are best at, and what we hate. I have written there broad stuff but I’ll write here the specific ones. Well, I don’t demand that much so I just like being enjoyed in doing something I like. I like challenging logical stuff. Then, I am best at messing up things. While others are busy being serious for something, I am enjoying doing that something. Lastly, about what I hate: I hate this world being divided and being unequal. Well, life is not equal which actually makes it equal. But when people are stepping on to others just to be at the top? That is different.

Using those things we like, best at, and hate, we will be formulating a business idea. Well, I was in a group that already had a great business idea.

I forgot to mention Steve Jobs’ commencement address. But I guess I won’t be talking about that anymore since it would be redundant. Oh well…

Review for Guy Kawasaki's "Make Meaning"

The guy from Masked Rider was talking about how to make meaning. Ohh… The Masked Rider I was talking about is Guy Kawasaki. Geez… “Masked Rider”, “Kawasaki”, what are the odds?

Anyways, like I said, “making meaning” or something like that. Masked Rider also point out why should we make meaning. So, why???

First of all, Masked Rider, Guy Kawasaki counts a lot of money because he is a venture capitalist. But before that, he is an Apple Fellow. I guess that means he is one of the best guys from Apple Computers alongside with Steve Woz. According to Wikipedia, he is the one responsible of fooling people to buy Macintosh a long time ago. He doesn’t look old but he’s already 56 years old. What I mean is he is in the marketing side of Macintosh. And I don’t know how but he is also a BA in psychology professor at StanfordUniversity. I guess psychology is effective in fooling people. I mean, marketing products to human beings. Well, “making meaning” can also be easily taught through psychology. Is there something like marketing psychology??? And is it just a coincidence that Masked Rider is also teaching at StanfordUniversity where Steve Jobs made a commencement speech?

Anyways, back to the main topic, “making meaning”. WHY??? In business, it is not really to make money the goal. When you make meaning for your products, human beings would most likely want your product thus, more money. Otherwise, when your product seems to be senseless, no one would really seem to want to buy it. In simpler words, like what Masked Rider said, when you make meaning, you’ll make money; otherwise, when you are aiming to make money, you won’t make meaning and you are most likely not be able to make money. So, products should really have double meaning.

In their time in Apple Inc, they were not just there to make money.

I remember when I was a kid; I play that “Magic Spring” toy. It makes rainbow-like colors when springing or whatever verb for that. Somehow, kids are fascinated with it that time. It does kinda’ doesn’t make any sense anyways… but the kids love ’em; that’s a cool enough meaning. And I guess that’s cool enough for a product. It did kinda’ sell out smoothly but not this time, though. Many toys now emerge and much cooler for kids.

Enough with the toys, how to make meaning? Masked Rider mentioned three things.

He first mentioned that you should find a way to increase the quality of life. By that, he means your product should be very useful. Of course, useful products mean money. Snail mails were the best means of communications for long distance long time ago. Well… snail mails made a lot of money due to its usefulness. I just remembered, in medieval period, they send horsemen with the message on. But that’s really old school. Snail mails got in to airplanes sometimes, not just horses. I know airplanes are fast but it’s not really enough. Airplanes won’t just land in your doorstep, although it can but you might be killed with it. So many guys out there made a revolution. I don’t know who they are but the thing is, they made fax machines. They went outdated because of e-mails, though. Anyways, SMS or text messaging was later invented and it beat the telephones which are also a means of long distance communications. I guess it removed the smiles out of the telephone companies. Mobile phones later had the ability to connect to the internet. See, mobile phones became more useful and useful these days and making the mobile phone manufacturers happy. There is something snail mails got the upper-hand against mobile phones, though. You can’t instantly send something even as small as a stapler using a mobile phone. Well, that’s why snail mails are still alive. Also, physical things are more authenticated and easier to know its authenticity. And at our times, where mail bombs are threats, well… you can’t send mail bombs through internet just computer viruses. It simply says, snail mails are still that powerful… Let’s set a sari-sari store for another example. I just thought of sari-sari store because they are widely spread here in our country. They don’t really make much money, but they got meaning. So, why are there many sari-sari stores? Basically, who wants to go to downtown just to buy one sachet of your favorite shampoo? So, like I said, they really are useful. The wrong thing is, they just spread too much. You can even see sari-sari stores front to front, back to back and even side to side. That won’t really make them profitable. So the first sari-sari store to have stood made the meaning. Another example would be the typewriter. This old school writing tool is one of the forefathers of the computers we got these days. Typewriters don’t have processor like computers have, though. So, cool things make meaning and not to mention, profitable. They also make our life lazier… but slowly, human beings are looking for a way to combine information technology and physical world. Nintendo Wii and now, also the PS3 seem to be the best example. Exercise plus computer games equals money.

Next thing he mentioned was that your product or product to be should right a wrong. Good things are not easily noticed by many because irritating things are much disturbing. You won’t mind if a good thing stays but with bad things, hell no! And who doesn’t want good things? Well, devils do. Hey? Since devils are wrong, having a product to delete them or convert them to good would be meaningful and (maybe) money-making. But I guess real devils can’t be seen if ever they are real. Back to the real / physical world, correcting a thing makes money. A libel suit makes money for whoever files the case. And libel corrects a wrong acquisition, right? Then, I guess a libel business of some sort is a good business if that is possible. Okay, a real example would be non-hazardous for human beings insecticide. Anti-cock roach sprays are helpful and in fact, I guess that could be an example of correcting a wrong thing. Insecticides got a negative effect, though; they can also kill human beings. Hey? Insecticide can always be hazardous for human beings like if you drink it, so I guess a non-hazardous for human beings insecticide is impossible. A preventive measurement would be good, though. Insecticides these days don’t smell like what they used to. Although, I know they can still damage your system without your consciousness. You just can’t smell it, but it can still cause its side-effects. Speaking of correcting wrong things, they made the lie detector! Yeah… That device really prevents lying so I guess it has the same motivation of righting a wrong but it just detects the wrong thing. But that product is really useful and also was very popular. It does have the issue of not being 100% accurate because some people could actually override it. Geeh… some cool guys… Another example would be the technology for television or perhaps, monitor. The oldest one’s technology uses, I guess a prehistoric version of TV tubes. Well, the ones I have been able to see are the ones with TV tubes, colored TV tubes. The televisions actually emit radiation and pollution to create the visual magic of bringing the television alive. I won’t be explaining all of how it happens or the process of “televisioning” because that would be very long and I’m not a television scientist. Anyways, like what I said, an old television set using TV tubes emits air pollution (or that’s what they told me) and also emits a certain amount of radiation. Old TV sets also eats a lot of electricity. Because of those reasons, they made the plasma TV. I guess, it was the first flat screen TV ever conceptualized. If I have understood it right, it uses mercury to make the pixels. I guess, that sounds hazardous. Later, LCD TVs are invented. These TVs use less electricity and weigh less than the plasma TVs. Plasma TVs are still flatter than LCD TV, though. Ohh… LCD TVs also cost less. I don’t know about the pollution part but I guess, the lesser electricity means lesser pollution generated. But compared to the old TVs and these two later ones, old TVs still seem to be more affordable.  Well, the latest TV technology I have heard is the LED TV, Light-emitting diode as a TV. It uses lesser electricity and generates less pollution according to them. Well, TV was made to increase the quality of life, right. It did get some drawbacks but with the emerging of technologies today, they look for ways to lessen its side-effects. There goes the concept of righting a wrong. Because of those traits, those technologies I have mentioned were widely supported by many and well… generated much money for the creators. The only problem I have seen is that they sell those things at a very high price in our country. But it seems to be sold at a reasonable price in other countries. So, some actually abused or took advantage with those technologies, the corrupted ones. Well… I guess a wrong thing that can’t be easily corrected by technology is the attitude of people. Oh well…

The last motivation that Masked Rider mentioned was preventing the end of something good or something like that. Let’s see… Sari-sari stores are still available so I guess it is really good. And again, TVs; they are one of the most useful things invented and until now, they are revolutionized and upgraded to be better. So I think what Masked Rider means by prevent the end of something good is not just prevent it but also reshape and make it better. From shirts, they created heavy armors and now light-weight armors like the bullet-proof vest or Kevlar. I don’t know why but some people continue something bad like war. They make a lot of money through wars. I guess their principle is preventing the end of something evil. Come to think of it, it is good for them. So I guess, they would really prevent the end of wars. Anyways, we may put a series of movies for example. How about “Harry Potter”? This story still continues but almost at the end. But see, human beings just love to see the continuation of the story. So its author, I guess it was Rollings something, makes it more and more exciting. I don’t really know what I’m talking because I’m really a vivid fan of Harry Potters movies. So, anyways, there is no never-ending story so Harry Potter needs to end. Well… like what I mentioned, the author makes it more exciting by creating sequels or making the story longer. So the author is actually preventing the end of the good story. But of course, it would end, eventually. Hhhmmm… it did make tons of money. A good story can also be considered as a product.

Now… to sum it all up: A good product only means it has a good meaning in it. A product with good meaning means a must have product for those who understood the art of the meaning of the product (Of course. A scalpel is a useful tool for doctor but I won’t be buying a scalpel. Why should I? I’m not a doctor who is interested with it.) I am actually specifying the products should have good meaning, not just a meaning. Like products for war, they have meaning and they are useful but the war it self isn’t. It only implies that a good product has a good meaning and a good product can be sold that much. So if you do really aim for making meaning to your company like changing the world if you’re that ambitious, spread it and supports would come along. Supports mean money if you want them.

Trends and Convergence

So, one of the examples of the trends and convergence I’ve found is this document. I actually made it via Google Docs. It may have been in the forums and my blog by now, though. Now I don’t have to own an office software and install it in my computer. Good...

Anyways, they put a lot of things in the internet since it is the trend now. I’m not really what they put in the internet first. I’m thinking of e-mail providers and file sharing. There are a lot of file sharing sites now and I didn’t find a new innovative way of representing the files except for the document files. They are now able to view the documents online. Well, that’s the latest thing I have seen if I haven’t missed something. Another convergence, although it isn’t really new but still has the edge is Youtube.  I guess, Youtube was the first one to pull off nicely this tubing business or whatever they call it in the internet. Youtube was released last 2005 and that year also, I learned of its existence. So, internet really got the advantage. Youtube also killed many parts of the video industry since other videos are posted there... Piracy had also converged with internet. Now piracy is easier to be done. Sadly, but true and we can’t really do anything about it. The best thing to prevent is making that thing open source if it was some sort of program. Well... how can you pirate a free thing, anyways? Hehehe.

One of my favorite thing in internet is PayPal. Because of PayPal, internet payment transactions are done through it. Many banks are now doing online banking anyways but PayPal is still the best.

Today, if you want to be in a competition, particularly in graphic designs, there are many things like that now. I actually joined some contests when stopped after high school. The site I joined to was 99Designs.com. I did not have much of a comment on how it was made or how it was conceptualized during those times. Basically, I just join contest and never asked to my self or even had realized, “Hey? This site is actually cool? How on earth have they made it?” But I just recently realized that. By recently, I mean just a moment ago. So yeah, 99Designs.com made a way to make graphic design contests be more accessible by most of us. If you know how to access the internet, you can actually be able to join a contest by yourself. Now you don’t really have to be at the contest holder’s place or somewhere near to join a contest. Additionally, because of the existence if PayPal or the like, payments are made easier. I was able to get money out of 99Designs.com and PayPal. It was not that much, though. I remember I was working in a contest by UnattendedMedia, they asked for a globe with a ribbon and chain. I can’t remember the name but I think it has “silver” and “link” in it. There logo is still at my hard drive but I’m currently not using it. How can I forget something that meaningful?! Geez? I also forget the other contest I have won. Anyways, I am wondering how those guys are doing now.

I can say e-commerce is a kind of convergence, stores are now placed online. You can now buy your bills online. You can even pay online. And you can even sell online. There are lot of things now being done online.

Anyways, because of internet, many things are now accessible. Many unique businesses were made. It also gave add-on or something like that features for that business. We were always talking about McDonald’s online services and I can really say it was good. Order customization is now available because of internet.

I do not know if having friends is a kind of business but even that idea is being done in the internet, social networking. I’m not quite sure what site done it first but I guess it was MySpace.com. On the other hand, online games had emerged. You would not be having problems facing a player again and again at you local internet / gaming cafe. Your opponents are now scattered all over the world. Online applications such as this Google Docs also emerged. The term we called “browser games” have also emerged. Combining almost all of those things, there goes Facebook.com. You can now talk to friends, play with them online and whatever it is available to them with Facebook. I just recently discovered that you can now even send SMS with Facebook. I guess Facebook really did a good design with there site. Oh... you can also have your business flowing within Facebook. Geez.

Now, Google made a lot of things. Really. I thought before that they only have this search engine of theirs. Later I have found out they also got e-mails. Much later, I found out they got Google Maps and Google Earth. And now I am using Google Docs. What are with these guys? They also have Google Sketchup, Google Commands, Google Videos, Google Books, Google Realtime, Google Translate, Google... etc. What I am saying is that Google made a lot of convergence with the internet. They put the map of the world to the internet which is really cool because we can now see the world or should I say other countries using Google Maps or Google Earth. i am still confused on what is it really called because they are alike. Only Google Earth has the actual surface rendered. Google hosted a lot of things with their own. Google is even invading the mobile phone world now; they got the Google Android OS. I am actually learning how to develop apps with the Android SDK. I got the idea of putting the chess game in the mobile phones with player vs player features but I think it already existed. I even thought of putting Yugi-Oh! in the mobile phones. And the good about that idea is that they have not done that yet in the mobile phones. I got these idea because of why should you always bring you cards physically which would be bulky if you got many when you can put them in the mobile phone world? Well, Yugi-Oh! already existed in hand-held consoles like Nintendo DS where you can play online, face to face and play with your own. But if we say, putting it in an Android phone, there are more things you can do. Buying or downloading cards online? There is this Android bar code scanner. I was really wondering at first about what those two-dimensional blocks at first. I was looking for sample codes for an Android App when I saw these weird blocks. It made me wonder, what are these things they always throw on me when I just wanted to download an Android app? While scanning, I have later found out those were some sort of bar codes and you will need a bar code scanner for it and you’ll be able to download that certain app. It made me think, “Wow!” in my head. Android is not only a phone OS, it also makes your phone a bar code scanner. It also has an accelerometer which makes you a policeman... I don’t really know what is that accelerometer like. Hehehe. But I guess it works that way. I was planning to make Android applications without having an Android phone. Good luck to me. Anyways, about my Yugi-Oh! idea. I have not really made a step about it because of legal issues. Another thing is I do not really know how to play Yugi-Oh! to begin with. So... I guess I still got a long way to go.

So, it implies that these days, it is not only internet that is doing the convergence. Mobile phone, specifically smart phones are making their way. There is also the Nokia’s Symbian OS which is also cool but not as cool as Android OS yet and iPhone which seems to be more popular than Android phones. But I guess Android still is better. Android is powered by Google while iPhone is powered by Apple. Like what I am saying, smart phones are making good convergence with business. I play this game in Facebook called Mousehunt. Mousehunt is a browser game, of course. Anyways, Mousehunt has the best community in the line of Facebook apps. It has many support and now, they made an iPhone app for it where you can do the basics. It is also connected to your actual Mousehunt account. Sadly,I do not have an iPhone so I do not have any ideas of its actual feel. When can I get one of those advanced mobile phones? Oh! I got one. Hehehe. Only that this is the Nokia’s Symbian Series 60 version 3. It is cool. I was also planning to make apps with Symbian OS but I could not find the compiler for the ARM processor or whatever it was called. Anyways, Symbian OS is less advanced than the Android OS. I guess Symbian has lesser internet capabilities than the iPhone, Android and I forgot to mention, Windows Mobile or Windows Phone.

Internet plus mobile phone technologies made convergence much better. I have not really discovered much of the smart phone apps because it is not that accessible for me yet. It needs money and I do not have much. As far as I know, they put CCTV cameras and it is connected via internet. With that, you can watch what the CCTV is seeing via computer. Few years ago, I have seen some TV shows, documentary, so it is real, where parents can access a camera in a day care center so they can watch their children while away. Nokia also got that technology and of course other smart phones that time. That technique can also be used for security purposes but I do not know what much can a person do when he or she is away from that certain place. It would take minutes for police to arrive. Hey? At least, they have clues for the crime.

Developers also made use of this convergence. They can now share their ideas via the internet. Because of that, open sourcing and out sourcing were born or further utilized. You do not have to be in the office to work. Your office is actually everywhere as long as you got the tools for it. My brother is also working at home while their boss is somewhere far away.

Even now, education can be done online. Internet is a very good source of information. If you got that information and you can process it, you are good to go. Well, those information can help you a lot with your studies, of course. Not only that, like what our instructor said, some schools are now online. Like the Windows development thing school, they will teach you how to develop Windows Phone and XBOX games in that online school. Some universities even do online lectures. Now, there is not only Sunday school. Since gathering information through internet is effective, I guess learning or studying or going to school via internet is not that bad.

To sum it all up, internet is really trendy. So are smart phones. With these technologies, unique business ideas emerge. Some business ideas improves the current ones. Some are even new. It is like a lottery where you can combine numbers. But with the current technologies today, everyone can actually make infinite ideas. Through these technologies, these ideas are easily advertised or delivered. The scope of a store is not just a block or a village anymore, it is now the whole world. And if you thought you’re the only one interested with what you thought, think twice. Some may be thinking of it but there miles away but with the technology today, you can connect with them. I guess that’s all.

Death of the Consumers

Like what we have discussed one time in our lectures, consumers are dead and prosumers are born. The consumers were brutally murdered by the prosumers. Not really, the term “consumers” was just rightfully replaced by the term “prosumers”. I guess not many of us knows that, though. I was even wondering the “DEATH OF THE CONSUMERS” part in our lecture. The thought of “Kinsa’y nagpatay?” and “Unsa man ni? Lamayan na lang nato ni sila?” came to my mind. Well, it really puzzled me why our instructor said those things.

Anyways, the definition of consumers is that they just buy things on what is available. They won’t ask for more. Consumers just wait and wait until the product they wanted would be available. In situations like they wanted a shirt which they like the design but hates the color, well... they can’t do anything. It is either take it or leave it. They have their own demands but they can’t and they don’t do anything about it.That is what most of us here. Yes... We do have hard-headed entrepreneurs who control us and force us on what we would like to buy. Nah... I don’t really know much about that because I don’t buy things that much. I am not really a greedy person unless if it is food, and I think we call it “gluttony”. But who cares? Now, for a long time, businessmen are controlling our market. They dictate us on what we buy and what we will want to buy. Until now, most of them are still like that. I guess that’s why our market is still like this. It’s kinda’ boring for me. They even make sales with the original prices doubled before the sale. They also stay on the same trend as the other. Or should I say, they got the same trends. One store sells this, the others also sell the same item with the price different but looks the same. I guess almost everyone noticed that because I have noticed it. I don’t really do shopping that much. A once a year shopping would be a miracle already. I experienced one at Tutuban whre there are lots of shoes with the same design in different stores at different prices. It was really funny because when you asked for a price in the same store at a different clerk or what ever we can call them, they tend to sell it at a different price. Geez! They also got the same way of talking, “Ano’ng sa atin, tropa?”. Hahaha! What’s with those guys? They also look scary. Woah...

Well... The shopping scenario, the usual one, is that we go to a shop, look for something we might like, look at its price, and buy it if affordable. It is also optional if you want to give it back to them. Now, if you won’t be able to seewhat you are looking for, you might as well go to another store and get back to the process of “consumering”. Hehehe. It only means that most of the time they won’t get the very thing they wanted to buy.

I think being a consumer is really tiresome because you’ll sometimes regret going to a shopping place finding not all the things you wanted to. I have also experienced situations like that sometimes when I was looking for a birthday gift to a friend of mine. I think I went to two to three malls just to look for a good gift for her. Well, yeah. That’s exhausting and cost a lot of money for the fares and also for some food stops. Hehehe. Of course, like what I have said, it was tiring. It just made me hungry going to a junk place. I guess that was a part of their marketing strategy for customers like me. They would tend to tire me up looking for something until I get hungry but still haven’t found what I was looking for. Sometimes, it also happens that I would find a good one but I can’t afford it... poor me.

There are also times that consumers sees something good for their eyes but there is a flaw on that product. It’s not really a flaw, it is just something pr a part of that product that they won’t need or they don’t want. For example, you found a cute pillow cover or whatever we call it. It comes up with the pillow itself but you don’t like it’s quality. Well, if you want to buy that pillow cover, you need to buy the whole pillow. You will need to pay the whole price to buy it, of course. In that situation, you could either buy the whole thing and throw the base of the pillow or whatever we call it and use the pillow cover or don’t buy the thing. The decision is yours, that’s not part of my story anymore. I have experienced this similar situation before. Actually, I experience it often times. But when I say often times in shopping, it is not really that often as yours, normally. I don’t really buy that much like what I was saying earlier. And when I go “shopping”, it would mostly involve just eating like my experience in SM Mall of Asia. I was really stuffed that time because earlier that morning we went to Red Ribbon and I bought an extra palabok. After we that we went to MMDA for not so long time and we went straight to SM Mall of Asia. We first, ate at Taste Asia. Well, I was still full that time but they want me to eat already... oh c’mon. I got no choice but to eat. The opportunity is vital. Hehehe. Anyways, I went to look for the department store to buy some toys for the kids. I kinda’ roam the whole gigantic mall just to go to the department store which is at the opposite side of the mall where I started to search for it. Good thing I was able to buy the things I wanted. I also got to find a Burger King food chain. The prices where good enough but my problem is that I got to buy the whole set. A set consists of the burger of your choice, a french fries, and a softdrink. Of course, I am still full but I wanted to taste the Burger King’s burger since we don’t have that in Davao. So I decided to buy, anyways. I don’t know what to do with the drinks because I am not really fond of it so I just gave it to others. I ate the french fries even if I was full. Hehehe. The burger was reserved to be eaten at the airplane. And another burger is reserved for my brother. So, there... They forced me to buy the whole set. Where is my freedom? I also got a prior experience with that here in Davao and it still involves burger. This time or should I say, those times because it happened many times, it is with the Space Burger. Their burgers are at the same level as the ones at Burger King’s. In other words, they are both delicious. So... about my experience, I wanted to buy that one-third pound burger. It would always involve with some onion rings. Well, of course, I hate onions. I won’t be able to eat the burger with the onion rings in it, there’s no way I would eat it with the onion rings. The solution is to ask the clerk to remove or not to put onion rings in it. So, of course, she would remove or won’t include the onion rings. Well, it is good except for the fact that I still need to pay for the onion rings... I’m still wondering why I really hate onions and garlics up to this day. The only way I am eating garlic is when I eat fried peanuts or whatever it is really called in English. I guess I can become a prosumer because of garlics and onions. Hehehe.

So, I guess that is what I have understood with the consumer part. And if we say “DEATH OF THE CONSUMERS”, I guess we are all already dead by now. Good thing it wasn’t that literal. If it was, Philippines would be a massive graveyard.

Anyways, I guess I should be discussing the characteristics of a prosumer. But I’m really wondering why they are called prosumer? It sounds like prostitue plus consumer... but I guess it is far like that. Hehehe. Who cares about the meaning, anyways? (Well, my classmate said it was proactive consumer.) They killed the consumers. If it was Masked Rider, I mean, Guy Kawasaki defines them, I think he can say they are revolutionaries. Well, these brand new breed of consumers eats the product and tears the store apart. Yeah, they also killed its customers which are prior to them called consumers. But I’m just kidding. They really are good guys. And yet I told another lie.

OK... Seriously. These brand new breed of consumers are the most demanding kind of consumers. They would buy what they want, where they want and how they want it to be as long as they can pay for it. Prosumers are not and won’t be dictated by the businessmen when it comes to buying product. They have thicker face than the businessmen. Businessmen should follow the demands of these prosumers or they would lose customers. When they want their phones to have antennae on it, you better give it. Don’t ask them why or something. I guess things would be better left unknown. Hehehe. Unlike the generation of the consumers, the market now is not really in control; except for the pricing, of course. Businessmen just have to believe that the customers are always right and there is now a new fool. The fool that had to please the customer. Well, the generation have changed and we should make them spoiled brats. Many businesses are now adapting the prosumer’s law or the prosumer’s way of shopping. Before, I just see those stores that designs the mobile phones. they just design, they don’t sell the handset itself. But maybe they do sometimes... I’m confusing. I guess they were the first ones that adapted the prosumer thingy in our city that I have seen. Outside the city... Hey? I don’t really get of the city, how should I know? Oh... right, the internet. I have seen this sight called Alienware. They sell customized computers and laptop. You are actually the one to decide what part of the laptop or PC you want to put. But the problem I have encountered is that it is really expensive. I guess part of the generation of prosumers is that things get really expensive. Another prosumer thing are the luxury cars. You normally can’t buy a predefined luxury car. Luxury cars are customized from an original design. Ferrari is a luxury car and all their cars are unique. No two cars should be the same. well, it is just a guess. I mean, how should I know? I don’t have a Ferrari. The only way I can drive one is through video games. A consumer might one day meet with the same shirt. I know, it would be shameful to see another person with the same shirt. It is like facing a mirror. While prosumers won’t be seeing the same thing to others. I guess so. So, I guess we can say, in the generation of prosumers, almost all products are the same. My burger would be different from yours. If it was genetics, one might want to create a baby with thousand arms. But I won’t be telling how it would look like. I think it would be disgusting. So I guess they would just make the baby stronger and much resistant. I guess human is some kinda’ product of prosuming but we’re not bought or something like that. We’re just unique to each other. Even a clone is still unique. Who knows? Hehehe. Anyways, prosumers are more flexible in the internet because may things are customizable in the internet. Rich people can buy an Alienware laptop in the internet. You can order a customizable burger in the internet. You might be able to see what you want to buy in the internet. I guess so. Internet provides many solutions to prosumer’s market. Marketing convergence is a good answer for prosumer’s demands. Like what I have said before, a lot of marketing convergence happens in the internet. So, yeah. marketing convergence helps the prosumers. It is an associative relationship. This is not discrete mathematics. Hehehe.

Anyways, I’m now thinking what am I on those two. Honestly, I am not a demanding kind of person. I just eat what I want to eat, you know? In times like I can’t buy something I wanted, I just buy the materials I would need. For example, the gift I bought for my friend. It wasn’t just a plane Garfield thing. I put a hanger or whatever we can call it. You know, the thing that makes something to be like a key chain? I forgot what we call it. Anyways, the thing is that I customized it my own. It wasn’t just a silly hanging plain thing anymore. Nah... It might still be boring for a hanging thingy, though. My friend likes Garfield, anyways. I guess it is cool enough.

Another one is the creation of my fisherman’s hat. It started from a drawing before. I suddenly think, “Hey? Why shouldn’t I make one?” So there, I looked for materials. Since I am not really capable of making the base of a fisherman’s hat that time, I just bought a plane one. Later, I bought a meter of gold or sometimes they call it yellow and a green roll of cloth. I don’t have any experience of making a hat so it was kinda’ hard for me at start. Luckily, I’m cool enough. Hehehe. Others don’t think so. I was able to manage to prepare the cloth to be bound with the hat. The fisherman’s hat was originally black and now it is dark green. And it has golden linings or I guess we can call it yellow linings. Hehehe. And another one was my ragged doll. The things I have used for that were all from our house’s items. The base was a doll from Pirates of the Caribbean. It was a cute doll. The doll was a skeleton, just like in the movie. You know, when the pirate is hit by the moon light. Just like that. Cute right? Hehehe. Another part is the Tiger’s coat from a toy from Pooh. That was from McDonald’s, Canada. My aunt is a manager in one chain. Yay! We normally get toys like that. There was also a hanger thing like what I have mentioned before. yeah, we got a lot of those before. Those were from the toys that are also part of the package from my aunt at Canada.  Cool... And some yarns and threads that can be found at local department stores near you. The yard was gold. I made it in to the pirate’s blond hair. I put the hanger thingy on its head. I put a scar-like thing in his eyes.  And a diaper in his waist. The tiger coat... well... I made him wear the tiger coat. The doll really looked weird! Sad thing is that I lost the doll during a heavy rain... Really sad. I call that doll “Estactoy”, named after a weird guy from high school.

I also once made my own shirt design. The funny thing was that I didn’t know that there was a specific kind of paint for clothes. Hahaha! That was really ironic. I didn’t continue making it anyways.

So, it implies that I am a different kind of consumer. I don’t know if I can be defined as consumer or prosumer. I am a self-customizer consumer. What can we call to myself? I think I am at the same type of the cosplayers. Cosplayers make their own costumes from different materials. The only thing they buy are the wigs.

So, about the “DEATH OF CONSUMERS”, they did die literally. They just evolved. I don’t know why it was entitled something like that... who cares, anyways? The consumers evolved in to prosumers where they are now actually so demanding and they reshaped the trends. Any color is not just black, anymore. What you want is what you get. The marketing strategy or pattern is now new. Internet also killed the consumers because it supports the prosumers. And I got nothing else to say.
